NEWS RELEASE: Pro-life demo in Hull challenging MP Diana Johnson to protect, not kill, babies in the womb

Thursday 22nd February, 13:00 - 15:00
North Hull

A coalition of pro-life groups is making a public stand against the extreme attempts by pro-abortion MP Diana Johnson to remove further protections from babies in the womb and their mothers in the name of “healthcare” and “women’s rights”.

What is this MP attempting to do?

Diana Johnson has hijacked the Criminal Justice Bill by tabling amendments that propose removing offences that make it illegal to perform a self-abortion at any point right through to birth.

MP Stella Creasey previously tabled similar amendments which were withdrawn following on from our demonstration in Walthamstow in which the MP falsely accused us of harassment.

These dangerous amendments would likely lead to an increased number of babies’ lives being ended through late-term abortions performed at home, as well as the lives of many more women being endangered.

The amendments will be debated in the Report Stage of the Criminal Justice Bill in the upcoming weeks.

How are pro-life groups responding?

Ruth Rawlins, from CBR UK, one of the organisers of the event, states:

“This over-reach by these MPs is completely opposed to public opinion. The problem is that the public are not aware about it, and so it is our responsibility to let them know.

A coalition of pro-life groups and individuals will be gathering in Hull, MP Diana Johnson's constituency, to stand in solidarity for babies and mothers in this nation.

We are destroying the abortion lobby’s deceptive framing and language of this as "healthcare", with the truth: there is no right to kill another human being. We must be a nation that protects babies both in law and in practice.

In stark contrast to the actions of Hull MP William Wilberforce 200 years ago, celebrated for his campaigning to bring legal protections for a targeted people group, Hull MP Diana Johnson is campaigning to remove all legal protections from another targeted people group - babies in the womb. History will not remember her in a good light.

CBR UK's Christian Hacking previously interviewed Diana Johnson where she fumbled over her words when asked if the unborn child is vulnerable:

Pauline Peachey, who had an abortion in the late 1960s, comments:

“The doctor advising me at the time, told me the abortion act was passed specifically for women in the situation that I was in. But I remember thinking I wish women did not have the burden of the choice to kill their babies but instead were given the help to enable them to keep their baby. Laws are necessary to protect both the babies and the mothers.”

Pauline has supported many women over the years through her PASE project and has found many share the same sentiment.

As well as the peaceful demonstration, pro-life group CBR UK are distributing thousands of postcards through doors in North Hull with an image of a living baby in the womb at 8-weeks from fertilisation with a message on protecting babies.

Petition

CitizenGo has set up a petition calling on the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, to ensure these extreme abortion amendments don't even make it to a vote.

Where does the public stand?

The people of Walthamstow were asked in this video produced by CBR UK, if babies should be protected, and for their response to MP Stella Creasy's plans to remove legal protections from babies in the womb. CBR UK will be asking the people of North Hull what they think of Diana Johnson's proposals.
