Privacy and Data Protection at CBR UK

The Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform UK (CBR UK) is a non-profit organisation committed to public education and advocacy on bio-ethical issues. Because we interact with the public through our websites and live educational displays, we take your privacy and the security of your personal data very seriously.

This page serves as our central hub for transparency. Whether you have visited our website or interacted with us during a live filming event, the sections below explain how we handle your information in compliance with the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (DUAA).

How We Use Your Data

When we conduct public education displays or document counter-protests, we may capture video footage or photographs.

What We Capture:

This may include faces, clothing, actions, and speech of individuals in public spaces. We do not intentionally collect sensitive data, though it may be captured incidentally (e.g., religious symbols or political expressions).

Why We Film:

We rely on Recognised Legitimate Interests under the DUAA 2025 to promote public awareness, document events accurately, and protect the integrity of our staff and displays.

Your Privacy:

We use clear signage at all filming locations to inform the public that recording is taking place. We take extra care to avoid filming children or vulnerable individuals, blurring or anonymising such footage wherever possible.

Storage:

All footage is stored securely with restricted access and is reviewed before any reuse or publication.

This policy applies to all our digital platforms, including cbruk.org, brephos.org, and hopepregnancy.org.uk.

Data Collection:

We collect information when you subscribe to newsletters, use contact forms, register for events, or make donations. This includes names, emails, IP addresses, and usage patterns.

Cookies:

We use cookies for core website functionality and analytics. In line with DUAA 2025, essential cookies do not require consent, while non-essential cookies (like analytics) are only activated with your permission.

Security:

We use HTTPS/SSL encryption to protect your data during transmission and limit access to authorised personnel only.

CBR UK applies heightened safeguards when processing data related to children.

Consent:

For children under 13, we obtain verifiable parental or guardian consent before collecting identifiable data. For those aged 13–17, we assess their capacity to provide informed consent.

Public Displays:

While children may be captured incidentally in the background of public education footage, we avoid close-up shots and blur or edit footage to remove identifiable images of children who have not provided consent.

Proactive Avoidance:

We take extra care to avoid filming children or vulnerable individuals. Our presenters are trained to use camera angles that minimise the identifiability of minors during live broadcasts.

Prior Notification:

At all live filming locations, we provide clear signage and make verbal announcements (where possible) at least 5 minutes before going live to allow parents and guardians to move out of camera range.

Mandatory Post-Live Review:

Because live footage cannot be edited in real-time, all broadcasts are subjected to a mandatory review before being permanently hosted or reused.

Anonymisation & Blurring:

Any identifiable images of children captured incidentally during a live stream will be blurred, edited, or removed before the footage is used for further educational or journalistic purposes, unless explicit parental consent has been obtained.

Strict Consent Protocols:

We do not intentionally collect or process identifiable data from children under 13 without verifiable parental or guardian consent. For those aged 13–17, we conduct assessments to ensure they have the capacity to provide informed consent.

Online Safety:

We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 via our websites without parental permission.

Under the UK GDPR and DUAA 2025, you have several rights regarding your personal data:

Access:

You can request a copy of the data we hold about you (Subject Access Request).

Correction & Erasure:

You may request that we correct inaccurate data or delete your information where applicable.

Objection:

You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing.

Note on DUAA 2025:

When processing Subject Access Requests, we conduct "reasonable and proportionate" searches. We may "stop the clock" on our one-month response time if we need further information to verify your identity or clarify a broad request.
