PETITION: The UK Government must offer ethical Covid-19 vaccines

Covid vaccine

The UK Government, along with other governments around the world, are engaged in a historic roll-out of Covid-19 vaccinations to protect against the continued spread of the virus. In this race to get as many of the population vaccinated as quickly as possible, three vaccines are currently available in the UK. The problem is that all of them involve the use of fetal cell lines created from body parts of aborted babies.

Please SIGN and SHARE this petition below as we call for ethical alternatives.

For the attention of:

The Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Vaccines and Public Health, Maggie Throup MP

The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid

Dear Ms Throup and Mr Javid,

We are requesting that ethical alternatives be made available to the Covid-19 vaccines currently on offer in the UK.

We note with regret that all vaccines against Covid-19 currently available in the UK have been brought to market using aborted fetal cell line HEK-293, either in the testing phase only or in both development and testing phases. The HEK-293 cell line originates from the kidney of a baby girl killed in the Netherlands in the early 1970s.

This is especially problematic as legalised killing and organ harvesting of human babies continues around the world today. As recently as 2015, nine human fetuses were “obtained” for the creation of a new aborted fetal cell line, WALVAX-2, and human embryos and fetal tissue are frequently used today for medical research here and around the world.

We find this practice morally unacceptable and believe that we have a right to access Covid-19 vaccines that have not been created using cell lines from aborted fetuses.

The use of aborted fetal cell lines is not the only way that effective vaccines, including against coronaviruses, can be and are being produced today, and so we are particularly aggrieved by this unnecessary contact with ethically problematic material.
